Update on the Carisbrook Flood Block Collection

The month of February was the month that quilters in the USA and Canada collected orphan quilt blocks and made Rail Fence quilt blocks to send to Carisbrook Australia. Blocks were sent to 5 collectors representing the north, south, east, west and central states. I am happy to announce that the central states collected the most blocks...drum roll....2322! The 5 collectors collected a total count of 9100 blocks! Plus there were many finished quilts or finished quilt tops sent along as well. Wilma Ladiges is the woman who started this mission in Carisbrook in hopes of getting enough blocks to construct quilts for those families who lost everything in the devastating floods this spring. The effort has really paid off and there will also be enough to send finished quilts to the Queensland area that was also hit with flooding.
I want to thank everyone who helped with this effort and it surely shows how many hands and not much effort can really make a difference. And a shout out to all of those quilters in the land down under who will have the huge task at hand of putting the blocks together and quilting the quilts! Thank you again!
